As you know 2017 marks the 35th anniversary of The Falklands War. Many Royal Marines groups representing veterans from this time will be arranging reunions and other events to mark this occasion.
We have had 1,660 referrals from veterans of The Falklands War in the last 35 years, and we are currently supporting 543 of these. As you will be well aware, the effects of wartime experiences on veterans are still very much with them and their families.
Combat Stress is the UK’s leading mental health charity for veterans, providing free specialist clinical treatment and welfare support to ex-servicemen and women across the UK with mental health conditions.
We treat conditions including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety. We provide a range of free services including short-stay clinical treatment, a specialist PTSD Intensive Treatment Programme, Occupational Therapy, Community and Outreach support and a free 24-hour Helpline.
We provide free support to all ex-military personnel, reservists & merchant navy and we are currently supporting more than 6,000 ex-Service men and women across the UK – more than at any time in our long history. In the last five years, we have received an increase of 71% in referrals. We urgently need resources to meet this challenge and hope that you will consider us a worthy and appropriate charity to support in this anniversary year.
I am writing to ask, if appropriate, that you would consider making Combat Stress the beneficiary of any fundraising activities you might be planning. If you need further information about Combat Stress, I am more than willing to come and speak to you, your committee or a group of interested people. Please let me know if you need any further information.
With my very best wishes and thanks in advance for your attention
